Saturday, February 25, 2012 - 6:30pm
Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, 158 N. Broadway, Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward (talk tickets are $10; call 414-276-8842 for reservations)
Milwaukee Chamber Theatre's current production is A Thousand Words, a new play about art, life, the Depression, and Walker Evans, the 1930s photographer who elevated reportage about American social conditions to high art. I'll be talking between shows about Milwaukee's experience of those Hard Times and the work relief programs that softened them for thousands of local residents, including artists. The program will take place in the Skylight Bar and Bistro, so you can have drinks and dinner after the 4:00 performance or before the 8:00 curtain.

Thursday, March 29, 2012 - 6:00pm
WMSE Studios (live event) (Check exfabula.com for details.)
Ex Fabula is a group of, well, fabulous young Milwaukeeans who are working to reclaim the lost art of storytelling. I'm part of their Terminal Milwaukee series, which features scenes from the life of Tom Crawford, general manager of radio station WMSE, in an eclectic series of venues. Other guests, invited and uninvited, make appearances as well. My role is to fill in the historical context of wherever it is we happen to be that evening. If you like The Moth on NPR, you'll enjoy this hometown version.
